Apple has released a new firmware update for its AirPods Max wireless over ear headphones.
As reported by MacRumors, the update, titled 3C39, is the second firmware update that the headphones have received since they launched back in December of 2020. The first, 3C16, actually came out on the same day that the headphones released to the public.
Apple never provides details on what a firmware update is for, but the report speculates that it could be related to reports of battery-life issues.
Apple does not provide details on what's included in new firmware updates, so we don't know what bug fixes or improvements the new firmware might offer. There have been reports of battery life issues with the AirPods Max, so it's possible that the firmware update addresses that problem.
Like all of the AirPods lineup, there is no way to manually update the firmware on your AirPods Max. They tend to install the update when they are wirelessly connected to one of your Apple devices and charging, so you can try to force the update that way.

Apple's AirPods Max headphones are still back-ordered since their launch, with ship times still running over a month out depending on the color you want. The headphones are obviously a hit, but many want Apple to make a less expensive version without that $550 price tag. Apple is also expected to release a new version of its AirPods headphones at a rumored March event.
