tvOS 14.5 beta hints at a potential redesign of the Apple TV remote - TechnW3
Could we finally see a redesign to the Apple TV remote?
What you need to know
- The "Siri Remote" is being removed in the latest tvOS 14.5 beta.
- It is being replaced with "Apple TV Remote".
We could finally be in store for a redesign of the Apple TV remote, one of the most polarizing Apple products to ever exist.
As reported by MacRumors, the fifth beta of tvOS 14.5 is removing mentions of the "Siri Remote" and placing it with "Apple TV Remote."
The Siri Remote has always been the Apple TV Remote in countries where Siri functionality is not available on the Apple TV, but now Apple is using the Apple TV Remote wording in countries where the remote was previously referred to as the Siri Remote.
While this isn't a direct indication that Apple will completely redesign its remote for the Apple TV for the next generation, it does seem that the company is looking to simplify what it calls the remote for its streaming box.
The remote for the Apple TV has been both loved and hated by Apple TV owners. The biggest complaints against the remote zero in on its lack of intuitiveness for new users and the fact that so many people commonly lose it in their home.
Apple is rumored to be releasing a new Apple TV later this year that could, in addition to a potential redesign, add "Find My" functionality to the remote to make it easier to find when lost in the couch cushions.

In addition to the subtle name changes for the remote, the tvOS 14.5beta has changed the "Home Button" to the "TV Button" in the Remotes and Devices section of the Apple TV's settings, added additional refresh rates, and added support for the Xbox Series X and S as well as the Playstation 5 Dualshock controllers.
