iOS 14.6 lets you list an email as a contact method for your lost AirTag - TechnW3

iOS 14.6 gives you more options for your lost AirTags.

What you need to know

  • iOS 14.6 will let you list an email address as a contact method for a lost AirTag.
  • You can currently only list a phone number for someone who finds your tracker.

Someone will soon be able to email you if they first your lost AirTag.

As reported by 9to5Mac, Apple has released the third beta of iOS 14.6 to developers earlier today. In addition to some small updates, the latest version of iOS 14.6 has also enabled the ability for AirTag owners to enter an email address as a contact method when the AirTag is set to Lost Mode.

If you lose your AirTag, you can set it into Lost Mode. In addition to helping you find your lost AirTag by networking with other Apple devices, you can list your phone number for someone to call if they come across your AirTag. With the latest version of iOS 14.6 released earlier today, Apple has added the ability to enter an email address instead.

As noted by 9to5Mac, users will now see an option to choose whether to use a phone number or an email address to enable Lost Mode for an item. Just as with the phone number, the Find My app tells the user that the email will be visible to anyone who finds the AirTag or other item with Lost Mode enabled.

"Enter an email address in case someone finds your item and wants to contact you. Once you enable Lost Mode, this email address will be visible to the person who finds your item. This allows others to contact you whenever your lost items are found."

The outlet notes that, while you can choose to display either a phone number or email address, there is currently no way to display both.
