Hello Sunshine, the production company founded by Reese Witherspoon, could be acquired by Apple.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, one of the potential buyers for the production studio was at one point actually Apple. The report does not say, however, if Apple is still in the running to acquire the company as a boost to its Apple TV+ streaming service.

The company began pursuing a sale in recent months after receiving interest from multiple suitors including Apple Inc., one of the people said. People close to the situation say the company could be valued at as much $1 billion in a deal.

Hello Sunshine is working with investment bankers as it explores its options, the people familiar with the matter say. There is no guarantee the company will find a buyer.

While Apple has signed plenty of deals with production companies, it has yet to buy one outright. The company currently plans all content for its Apple TV+ streaming service through Apple Original Studios in partnership with a range of other studios.

Hello Sunshine is best known for producing television shows like "Big Little Lies" and "Little Fires Everywhere." Witherspoon herself already has a relationship with Apple as a costar in the Apple TV+ drama series "The Morning Show."

It is currently unclear if Hello Sunshine will actually be sold or if Apple will end up as the winning bid for the company.
