Here are the best amiibo to scan in Monster Hunter Stories 2 - TechnW3

Unlock extra goodies and Layered Armor with amiibo.

As I said in my Monster Huinter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin review, this is an awesome game whose complexities make it incredibly rewarding to play. Plus, there are some really fun rewards for anyone who collects Monster Hunter Rise or Monster Hunter Stories amiibo. Trying to figure out how to unlock the sweet Layered Armor and those Sticker Sets? Here's what you need to do.

How to scan amiibo in Monster Hunter Stories 2

  1. Interact with a Prayer Pot. They can be found in any village or city.
  2. Select Use an amiibo.

  3. Now scan your amiibo. If you're using a Pro Controller, hold the amiibo over the Nintendo symbol. If you're using Joy-Cons, hold the amiibo over the right joystick.
  4. A short cutscene will play. You'll either get a Crescent Moon, Half Moon, or Full Moon blessing that gives you items. Press OK to receive your rewards. If you have more amiibo to scan, repeat the process.

You can only scan an amiibo once per day and when it comes to amiibo that unlock special items, you can only get a special item the first time you scan it. For instance, scanning Razewing Ratha unlocks Red's Outfit Layered Armor. Scanning it a second time on another day only gives you small items.

Which amiibo can I scan?

I have dozens of amiibo and I've scanned a good number of them while playing this game. As far as I can tell, any amiibo can be scanned to unlock in-game items like traps and potions. It's just that only Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter Stories amiibo will unlock special items like Sticker Sets and Layered Armor. Here are the amiibo that unlock something special:

Monster Hunter Stories 2 amiibo

These are the latest amiibo to join the Nintendo figurine lineup. They've been selling out really quickly, but you can check amiibo restocks to try and get your hands on them. The first time each one of them is scanned, you'll receive Layered Armor.

  • Razewing Ratha - Red's Outfit
  • Ena - Kyle's Outfit (M Rider) and Ena's Outfit (F Rider)
  • Tsukino - Tsukino Outfit

Monster Hunter Stories amiibo

It's unclear what all of these amiibo from the original 3DS game do at this point in time. These are by far the rarest Monster Hunter amiibo with some of them selling on eBay for as much as $600 or more. If you happen to already have them give them a scan and see what happens.

  • One-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Boy)
  • One-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Girl)
  • Navirou
  • Rathian and Cheval
  • Barioth (Glacier) and Ayuria
  • Dan's Qurupeco

Monster Hunter Rise amiibo

Scanning any one of these amiibo unlocks a special Sticker Set. After the Sticker Set has been redeemed, the other two amiibo won't do anything special.

  • Palico
  • Palamute
  • Magnamalo

Get a-scanning

There are several fun things to unlock with Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter Rise, and Monster Hunter Stories 2 amiibo. After you've scanned them for the first time you can continue to scan them once per day to get smaller in-game goodies. Have fun!
