What you need to know

  • Offline playback is finally rolling out to Spotify on Apple Watch.
  • The company originally announced the feature in May.
  • It is rolling out gradually to users globally.

The Spotify Apple Watch app is finally getting a long-awaited feature.

The option to download songs from Spotify to your Apple Watch appears to be finally rolling out to all Spotify Premium subscribers.

As reported by Gadgets and Wearables, a number of users have reported getting the feature over the last few days. It is rolling out to users globally, so you should expect to have access to the new feature in the next week or so as long as the company doesn't discover some kind of major bug with the update.

As reported by a multitude users, over the past day or so many people have started to see the Apple Watch download option. Most that have not had access to downloads before are getting the update – but not all. Presumably the rest of the user base will get the new version in the coming days.

The update has hit users in the US, Germany, Austria, UAE, Brazil, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Malaysia, Portugal, Canada, UK and other countries. Many of these only got the software refresh in the past 24 hours. But it seems to be a definite acceleration of the global rollout.

Spotify had originally announced offline playback for Apple Watch back in May. It's now July, so the company obviously did not roll out the feature to everyone right away. It appears that the company decided on a gradual rollout which can be helpful to catch any issues before the feature gets into everyone's hands.

The version of the Spotify app that you need to use the feature is version 8.6.40.1248 so, if you don't have it yet, you can check the App Store to see if it is available to download yet.

If you want to enjoy the feature, you'll need an Apple Watch to go along with it. Check out our list of the Best Apple Watch 2021 to find which one is the right fit for you.
