AirPods Pro and AirPods Max are getting a different kind of boost in iOS 15.
As reported by 9to5Mac, AirPods will now be linked to your Apple ID in iOS 15 so that, in addition to using Precision Finding to locate your lost headphones, you'll be able to find them anywhere. The feature will display the location of the AirPods on the map - even if they are not connected to another Apple device.
Just like AirTag, AirPods will now be able to be located no matter where they are and use Bluetooth technology with other Apple devices to anonymously help you find them.
Similar to AirTags, iOS 15 will use Bluetooth technology to precisely locate AirPods when you're near them but don't know exactly where the earphones are located. This feature will be available for both AirPods Pro and AirPods Max and will also show the current AirPods location on the map even when they're not connected to your iPhone or iPad.
To achieve this, the AirPods will finally be tied to your Apple ID. As spotted by 9to5Mac in the iOS 15 internal code, lost AirPods will continue to send their location to the owner through the Find My Network even if someone else connects them to another device.
The feature will, however, only work with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. The current generation of AirPods do not seem to support the new linkage to iCloud. AirPods Pro are also getting Conversation Boost in iOS 15 which helps those who are hard of hearing to use the beam-forming microphones to focus their audio on who is talking to them.
Apple is expected to release the 3rd generation AirPods this fall, so hopefully, the company will add the feature to those new earbuds.
