Twitter officially adds support for 'Sign in with Apple' - TechnW3

What you need to know

  • Twitter has announced support for Sign in with Apple.
  • Support is rolling out now for iOS users and "soon" for users on the web.

Apple's privacy-focused login service has come to Twitter.

After weeks of rumors about a release date, Sign in with Apple has come to Twitter.

Earlier today, Twitter announced that it is adding support for both Sign in with Google and Sign in with Apple. Apple's login feature will be available on iOS to start and come to Twitter on the web "soon."

Sign on with ease and start scrolling your timeline.

Now, when you log in or sign up to join the conversation on Twitter, you have the option to use:

  • Your Google Account on the app and on web
  • Or your Apple ID on iOS, and soon on web

The integration was originally spotted by researcher Jane Manchun Wong towards the end of July. At that time it was still in beta and not fully functional. Now, it appears the feature is ready for primetime and is rolling out to all users.

Sign in with Apple allows users to sign up for an account without having to provide an email address or a password. They can choose to share their email address with whatever service they are signing up for or have Apple create a random email address that is used for that and only that service. Emails will still be forwarded to your main email address with Apple, but it adds another layer of privacy between users and the services they use.

You can check to see if Sign in with Apple is available for you on the Twitter app now. It's still unclear if you can link your existing Twitter account with Sign in with Apple or if the feature is currently only available to new accounts. The announcement does say "log in or sign up," so it is hopefully already available for existing accounts.
