Kuo: iPhone 14 and Apple VR headset to feature Wi-Fi 6E connectivity - TechnW3

What you need to know

  • The iPhone 14 and "Apple VR" headset will feature Wi-Fi 6E.
  • The technology enables speeds up to three times as fast as Wi-Fi 5.

You'll most likely need other devices to take advantage of the technology.

We're already getting into what kind of Wi-Fi technology the iPhone 14 and Apple's rumored mixed-reality headset will feature.

According to a new note to investors, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will adopt the new Wi-Fi 6E standard in both its upcoming iPhone 14 lineup as well as its still widely unknown "Apple VR" mixed-reality headset.

The head-mounted display supporting high-speed wireless transmission is the key to improving the user experience of Metaverse. We predict that the mainstream Wi-Fi specifications adopted by head-mounted displays in 2022, 2023, and 2024 are Wi-Fi 6/6E, Wi-Fi 6E/7, and Wi-Fi 7. We also believe that both the iPhone 14 and Apple head-mounted displays are equipped with Wi-Fi 6E, which is expected to drive more competitors' products to adopt Wi-Fi 6E. Jingde is the main winner of Yuan Universe and Apple's new products in accelerating the upgrade of Wi-Fi specifications.

WiFi 6E could enable WiFi speeds of up to three times faster than Wi-Fi 5 while also handling interference from other household devices better. Of course, you'll need internet speeds and a modem/router as well as other devices to get the most out of these upgrades.

We are also still in the dark about what to expect from the iPhone 14 and Apple's long-rumored headset for the most part. While the occasional leak about a component pops up, the grand vision for both devices is still largely unknown.

Most Wi-Fi upgrades are slow to happen with many other devices, so it most likely won't be something to consider when upgrading to the iPhone 14 or not.
