Netflix hype monster Squid Game was the US-streamed show that saw the most tweets during the entirety of 2021, according to a new report. That's mightily impressive considering it only premiered in September.
According to a Deadline report based on Twitter stats, Squid Game was the most-watched in the United States while Big Brother Brazil took the top spot in terms of worldwide numbers.
Back in the United States, Netflix shared the top five with streamers Disney Plus and Apple TV+.
Twitter, which swung into year-end spirit today with 2021 rankings, showed the Netflix viral hit was, unsurprisingly, the most tweeted-about show on streaming in the U.S. this year. WandaVision and Loki (Disney+) were nos. two and three, followed by iCarly on Paramount+ and Ted Lasso on Apple TV+.
I'm surprised that Ted Lasso wasn't higher on the list, but there are definitely some hugely popular shows above it.
Fans of Squid Game — that's all of us, right? — are now waiting for a second season to be confirmed while we already know that the third season of Ted Lasso is in the works. The show's bosses are being coy on whether there will be a fourth, but everyone has their fingers crossed. Could Apple TV+ really ditch what has become the show to watch on its platform?
